Star Fox (2026) | Announced

Nintendo has detailed Star Fox, a full remake of Star Fox 64 launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026.

Priced at $49.99 digitally and $59.99 physically, the remake rebuilds the Lylat System with overhauled visuals, redesigned characters, fully voiced cinematic sequences, an orchestral soundtrack, expanded modes, and new control options. The physical edition includes the complete game on the card rather than using the Game-Key Card format.

A Full Remake of Star Fox 64

Star Fox rebuilds Star Fox 64 while retaining its branching Campaign Mode, medal progression, and unlockable Expert difficulty. Fox McCloud and his team once again travel across multiple routes through the Lylat System as they battle Andross and his forces.

Corneria returns with denser environments, updated lighting, and a more detailed city under attack.

Familiar locations such as Corneria, Zoness, and Fichina have been rebuilt with new environments, lighting, particle effects, and redesigned character models. New mission briefings and fully voiced cinematic sequences also expand the presentation between stages, while an orchestral soundtrack supports the remake’s broader cinematic direction.

Joy-Con 2 mouse controls allow players to aim independently while piloting the Arwing.

Campaign and Challenge modes support traditional button inputs alongside Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. The mouse can be used for more precise aiming, allowing players to move the targeting reticle independently from the Arwing’s flight path.

A second player can also join as the gunner while the first handles flight, either on the same system or through GameShare and GameChat. GameChat includes interactive character avatars and augmented-reality filters based on Fox, Falco, and other members of the cast.

Campaign, Challenges, and Battle Mode

The redesigned Arwings feature more visible mechanical detail and weathering.

Challenge Mode allows players to revisit cleared stages with additional objectives that do not appear during the main campaign. The expanded Battle Mode introduces four-versus-four matches between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf, with revealed objectives including controlling zones on Corneria and collecting crystals on Fichina.

GameShare supports multiplayer sessions for up to four players, expanding the remake beyond the original campaign with additional cooperative and competitive options.

Another Return to Star Fox 64

It is interesting to see Nintendo return to Star Fox 64 after leaving the series inactive for so long, although this is also familiar territory. The original game was previously remade as Star Fox 64 3D, while Star Fox Zero reimagined many of the same ideas and story beats.

My hope is that this release is being used to gauge interest before Nintendo moves forward with something less familiar, particularly another game built upon the foundation of Star Fox Adventures. I understand that it remains a polarizing entry, but it is still my favorite game in the series, and its combination of exploration, action, and the wider world surrounding Fox has considerable potential on modern hardware.
