A free Star Fox demo is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop later today, giving players their first opportunity to try the full Star Fox 64 remake before its June 25 launch.
Nintendo announced the surprise demo during its June 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct before showcasing the game through an extended Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation. The demo includes the complete tutorial and the Meteo campaign stage.
Nintendo Treehouse Showcases Star Fox
During Nintendo Treehouse: Live, the development team demonstrated portions of the campaign in both single-player and two-player co-op. The presentation highlighted the remake’s Gunner mode, which lets one player pilot the Arwing while a second handles weapon targeting.
The footage also showed the remake’s overhauled presentation while retaining the arcade pacing, mission structure, and score-driven combat of the Nintendo 64 original. Nintendo confirmed support for multiple interface and voice-over languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
What the Free Demo Includes
The free demo includes the full tutorial and Meteo campaign stage, allowing players to learn the Arwing’s controls before taking on one of the remake’s space-combat missions. It provides an early opportunity to try the rebuilt gameplay and presentation before the complete campaign becomes available later in June.
Pre-Orders Available Ahead of Launch
Digital pre-orders are now available through the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. Star Fox launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026, priced at $49.99 digitally and $59.99 physically, with the physical edition including the complete game on the cartridge rather than using Nintendo’s Game-Key Card format.
