SHIFT UP Will Publish Next Stellar Blade and UNBOUND Games

SHIFT UP 2026 roadmap details have emerged from the company’s Q1 2026 financial results, confirming a major shift in the developer’s publishing strategy. The studio plans to reveal new information regarding the next Stellar Blade and the flagship Project Spirits within the current year.

The roadmap signals an acceleration of the company’s development cycle and a transition toward internal publishing capabilities.

Stellar Blade | Platform Expansion & Self-Publishing

The next Stellar Blade entry is currently in development and meeting internal quality standards. SHIFT UP confirmed that the sequel will be a first-party service title, meaning the studio will handle global marketing and publishing directly. This move aims to communicate the identity of the franchise more effectively to its established fanbase.

  • Evergreen Status: The original Stellar Blade continues to maintain stable long-term sales through seasonal promotions.
  • Platform Expansion: The studio is actively looking at further platform expansion for the first game to maximize the value of the property.
  • Market Strategy: SHIFT UP is targeting a global audience from day one for the next entry, utilizing its new self-publishing infrastructure.

UNBOUND | The Shinji Mikami Acquisition

The partnership with UNBOUND, a studio led by Shinji Mikami, is an acquisition and hire deal. The UNBOUND team consists of approximately 60 developers with a history of launching recognized global titles.

  • Multiple Pipelines: UNBOUND is currently working on multiple projects, ranging from high-end to mid-scale titles.
  • Strategic Alignment: SHIFT UP and UNBOUND are collaborating on creative planning and worldbuilding for these upcoming releases.
  • Publishing: These new titles will also follow the first-party service model.

Project Spirits & NIKKE Status

Project Spirits remains the next flagship title for the studio. The project is moving forward with efficient cost management, and more details will be shared before the end of 2026. Meanwhile, Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is entering its fourth year with strong results from its 3.5th anniversary. A large-scale 4th anniversary update is scheduled for the second half of 2026.

SHIFT UP 2026 Roadmap | Editor’s Take

The SHIFT UP 2026 roadmap signals the end of the studio’s era as a developer for hire. Transitioning to a first-party model for the next Stellar Blade is a major business move. The Sony partnership clearly provided the capital needed to build an internal publishing arm.

Stripping Denuvo from the PC version is a win for preservation and clears the path for a DRM-free GOG release. With Shinji Mikami’s UNBOUND team on board, the technical pedigree of the sequel is high. The real test of this new independence is whether SHIFT UP commits to simultaneous multiplatform parity from day one.
