Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date Moved Up to September 4

Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword‘s release date has moved up to September 4, 2026, with the action game now arriving weeks earlier than expected.

The first brand-new Onimusha title in 20 years will be available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store.

Demo & Early Adopter Bonuses

If you’d rather try the game before launch, a free demo is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. It includes an early section of the game, and players with demo save data can claim the Kubi Akari charm when the full game releases.

Pre-orders are also available for the Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe editions. Players who purchase the game before September 24 will receive Early Adopter rewards, including the “Sealed Curse” sword skin and “Lion Dog” charm. The Deluxe and Premium Deluxe editions also include the “White Lion” sword skin and “White Monkey” charm.

Onimusha Returns After 20 Years

Set in a dark fantasy version of Edo-period Kyoto, Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi after he acquires the mystical Oni Gauntlet. Players will battle demonic Genma using fast-paced sword combat centered around the series’ signature Issen counterattacks and Soul Absorption mechanics while exploring historical landmarks and supernatural locations inspired by Kyoto.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 4, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Microsoft Store, and the Epic Games Store. Xbox players can also take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere support.
