Switch & Switch 2 22.0.0 Update Out Now

Nintendo just dropped new firmware updates for both of its consoles. The Nintendo Switch update 22.0.0 is now live for the original system, rolling out alongside version 22.5.0 for the Switch 2. You can grab both downloads right now through the system settings menu on your console.

Here is a quick, no-nonsense look at what each update actually changes.

Switch Update Version 22.0.0 Changes

The original Switch gets the bulk of the visual changes this time around, mostly focused on cleaning up the digital storefront and adding a few handy video shortcuts:

  • New eShop Layout: The Nintendo eShop has been redesigned with a fresh layout.
  • Dark Mode Storefront: If you use the “Basic Dark” theme in your console’s system settings, the eShop colors will now change to match it so you don’t blind yourself at night.
  • Security PINs: You can now lock eShop access and your saved payment methods behind a User-Verification PIN.
  • Video Controls: When watching full-screen videos in the eShop or the News tab, you can now use the ZL and ZR buttons to skip forward or rewind by 10 seconds.
  • Stability: The usual general system stability improvements are included.

Switch 2 Update Version 22.5.0 Changes

The next-gen console update keeps things simple, focusing purely on specific accessibility additions for voice and text chats:

  • Text to Speech: Dutch and Russian are now supported languages for the system’s built-in “Text to Speech” functions.
  • GameChat Conversions: Dutch and Russian have also been added to the “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” feature.
  • Stability: Standard system stability fixes have been applied to keep everything running smoothly.
