The absolute cornerstone of the Nintendo 64 era is getting a full remake. Nintendo capped off its June 2026 Direct broadcast by confirming that a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially coming out later this year.
The most important detail right away is the platform availability. Nintendo is skipping the current Switch hardware entirely, building this reconstruction exclusively for the Switch 2.
Breaking Down the Teaser Footage
The brief reveal skipped showing real-time combat meters or map traversal, focusing instead on showing off the baseline fidelity of the new Ocarina of Time remake engine.
The trailer opens with a cinematic narrator tracking over an old canvas mural, summarizing the history of the Kokiri children and the Great Deku Tree. The text hits the classic line regarding the one boy born without a guardian fairy before cutting directly to the new engine assets.

The footage transitions to a close-up of a young Link asleep on his bed inside his Kokiri forest treehouse. A quick nod for long-time fans shows the Triforce of Courage faintly glowing on his left hand right before the screen cuts to the title logo.
Tech Changes & Speculation
This snippet confirms the project is a full remake rather than a basic resolution upscale. The updated art style drops original low-polygon restrictions to use modern geometric modeling and advanced lighting.
By targeting the Switch 2 system natively, the project steps past the hardware constraints that limited the previous versions. Nintendo could opt for motion controls, mouse controls and a rock solid 60fps handheld presentation while providing 120 docked given the new hardware and utilization of DLSS in current titles.
More information regarding gameplay mechanics, layout tweaks, and exact release dates will debut during the dedicated showcase later this autumn.
