Gundam Rogue Orbit is a new action game coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam in 2027. Bandai Namco officially revealed the project during Summer Game Fest, highlighting a shift toward fast-paced, high-mobility mecha combat.
Developed internally by Bandai Namco Studios, the game establishes a completely new timeline separate from existing franchise lore. The narrative centers on a pilot named RE-X and a mobile suit designated as Gundam Helix. The premise is straightforward: a small crew is fighting an unknown enemy threat for human survival.
The brief gameplay footage shown during the announcement focuses on speed and environmental scale. Players will engage in combat against large groups of enemies and massive boss encounters. The studio is placing a heavy emphasis on mobility, suggesting the mechanical weight of traditional Gundam games is being traded for a faster, more aggressive combat loop.
Establishing a new timeline is a practical move for Bandai Namco. It bypasses decades of dense continuity, allowing the studio to build an accessible entry point without requiring players to understand prior factions or political histories. If the development team can balance the technical precision of mecha combat with this new high-speed direction, it could provide a strong alternative to the standard arena fighters the publisher usually relies on. Still, fighting an alien invasion in Gundam is a strong premise, one that will feel very fresh for the franchise.
