Geppy-X | Countdown Trailer Released Ahead of July 16 Launch

The countdown trailer celebrates one of the original PlayStation’s most unusual releases. Originally launching exclusively in Japan in 1999, Geppy-X combined side-scrolling shooter gameplay with an interactive super robot anime presentation spanning four CDs and more than 8,000 hand-drawn animation cels. Its over-the-top style, complete with television eyecatches, parody commercials, and tributes to classic super robot anime, helped it earn a devoted cult following despite its limited release.

For the remaster, Bliss Brain restored the game’s animation from the original Betacam master materials while adding HD visuals, modern quality-of-life improvements, multilingual support, and the ability to switch between the original and remastered movie sequences. The trailer serves as both a preview of those enhancements and a celebration of the game’s upcoming worldwide debut.

Akira Yamato Reflects on Geppy-X’s Legacy

One of the trailer’s highlights is a message from original creator Akira Yamato, who reflected on the team’s ambitions during development and the disappointment surrounding the game’s commercial performance after its 1999 launch. Rather than trying to create a restrained project, Yamato explained that the team poured every homage, parody, and super robot reference they loved into Geppy-X, believing that passion was more important than restraint.

Although the game failed to find a large audience at release, Yamato credited its enduring legacy to the dedicated fans who continued sharing and discussing it over the years. He concluded by thanking that community, saying the remaster exists because people believed Geppy-X deserved another chance.

Geppy-X Launches Worldwide Next Week

The remastered release arrives on July 16, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Store, and Steam. Originally released exclusively in Japan for the original PlayStation in 1999, the remaster marks the first official worldwide release of Geppy-X, making the cult shooter accessible to international audiences for the first time.

Alongside its restored HD animation, the remaster includes the complete game, dual animation viewing modes, multilingual support, and the arcade-inspired side-scrolling shooter gameplay that helped Geppy-X earn cult status among retro gaming enthusiasts.
