For long-time fans, the best news out of the livestream is the return of the original voice actors. The core lineup is fully intact to reprise their roles:

  • Keiichi Maebara: Soichiro Hoshi
  • Rena Ryuuguu: Mai Nakahara
  • Mion / Shion Sonozaki: Satsuki Yukino
  • Satoko Houjou: Mika Kanai
  • Rika Furude: Yukari Tamura

Untangling the Studio Timeline

If you’ve been keeping up with the franchise, the studio shuffle here is worth noting. Studio DEEN handled the foundational adaptations that put the series on the map, including the original 2006 anime, Kai, and Rei.

However, the recent Gou reboot in 2020 along with its follow-up SOTSU in 2021 were animated by Passione (known for Mieurko-Chan and the new Spice & Wolf). Handing the control back to DEEN for this anniversary project suggests a deliberate attempt to recapture the visual identity and atmosphere of the original run.

We will keep you updated as actual details on the narrative and broadcast dates emerge.
