Major Upgrades
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT fully replaces the original 2009 assets. All character art, backgrounds, and event illustrations have been redrawn from scratch. The total number of event stills has roughly doubled, and background variety has increased by around 20%.
The updated software architecture introduces major changes across several core development tracks:
- All character art, backgrounds, and event illustrations redrawn from scratch
- Event stills roughly doubled and background variety increased by about 20%
- New E-mote animation system with breathing, posture shifts, and facial expressions
- Fully re-recorded Japanese voice acting for the entire script
- Brand new soundtrack by composer Takeshi Abo
- Expanded scenarios, new dialogue, and one additional worldline with a new ending
- Expected playtime is 30 to 50 hours.
STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT E-mote Introduction
- E-mote Integration: Implements the next-generation E-mote animation tool to bring character models to life. The middleware introduces real-time breathing loops, natural physical posture shifts, and subtle facial expression transitions to drive engagement.
- Audio Master: Features completely re-recorded Japanese voice tracks for the entire script. Series composer Takeshi Abo has also fully remade the game’s soundtrack.
Steins;Gate Re;Boot Western Release | Editor’s Take
The staggered release creates an awkward split. While PC and Xbox players can start on August 20 with full English localization, console players must wait over two months. This decision appears driven by physical manufacturing timelines, particularly for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 cartridges. Spike Chunsoft seems to have prioritized protecting physical sales over a unified digital launch.
Skipping an English dub is a practical choice for a text-heavy niche title. The move back to fully redrawn illustrations instead of the anime footage used in Steins;Gate Elite is a welcome correction that should age better on modern displays.
Overall, the STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT western offers a meaningful technical upgrade for longtime fans, even if the launch schedule feels fragmented.
