Nintendo Switch 2 Adds System Lock and Battery-Saving Charge Option

Nintendo Switch 2 will feature a new PIN-based System Lock for added security and an optimized charging mode to preserve battery health over time.

The latest update from the Nintendo Today! app has revealed two new quality-of-life features coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

System Lock introduces a PIN-based security option, requiring a code every time the console wakes from sleep mode. It’s a straightforward feature aimed at preventing unauthorized use.

Optimized Charging gives users the ability to slow the charge rate once the battery hits approximately 90%. Designed to reduce long-term battery wear, this option should help extend the lifespan of the hardware for frequent users.

Both features are expected to roll out around the launch window of the system.
