Nintendo has officially announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, bringing Monolith Soft’s acclaimed open-world RPG to Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2025. Originally released exclusively for the Wii U in 2015, the remaster introduces enhanced visuals, new story content, and additional gameplay improvements for modern hardware.

A Wii U Classic Returns
Originally developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles X stood apart from the rest of the series with its emphasis on open-world exploration, player freedom, and large-scale environments. Set on the alien planet Mira, players assume the role of a customizable survivor after humanity escapes the destruction of Earth, exploring the planet while helping rebuild civilization in New Los Angeles.
Traversal plays a major role throughout the adventure, with Skells allowing players to explore Mira by land and air while taking on increasingly dangerous enemies.
What’s New in the Definitive Edition?
Nintendo has confirmed several additions and improvements for the remaster, including:
- Enhanced visuals with updated textures and environmental detail.
- New story content that expands on the original game’s narrative.
- Returning online features, allowing players to cooperate with others while exploring Mira.
- Gameplay refinements designed for the Nintendo Switch version.
While Nintendo has yet to detail every enhancement, the Definitive Edition aims to modernize one of the Wii U’s most ambitious role-playing games.
