Ghost in the Shell TV Anime Updates Release Window and Staff Details

Ghost in the Shell has received a release update, confirming it will air nationwide in Japan on Kansai TV and Fuji TV every Tuesday at 11:00 p.m. as part of the upcoming “kaanival!!” anime block. The programming slot will debut in January 2026, with Ghost in the Shell joining the lineup later that year. A teaser trailer previously released offers a glimpse of the series’ updated visuals and approach under Science SARU.

The new series is directed by Mokochan, written by EnJoe Toh, and features character designs and executive animation direction by Shuhei Handa. Animation production will be handled by Science SARU.

The project adapts Masamune Shirow’s original manga, first serialized in Young Magazine by Kodansha. Additional details, including the exact premiere date, will be announced through the official Ghost in the Shell website and social media channels.

The project was first teased earlier this year with a short trailer showcasing a new wireframe-style Motoko Kusanagi design.

Editor’s Take

After the disappointing and soulless recent Netflix entry, Science SARU looks to take a more respectful approach to the series. The studio has come a long way since the missteps of Devilman Crybaby, showing genuine respect for source material with Dandadan. With the series airing on Kansai TV as part of the new “kaanival!!” slot, it’s clear the studio is aiming for a thoughtful presentation that honors the franchise.

With Mokochan, the assistant director of Dandadan, taking a leading role here as his first outing, I’m hopeful that my favorite anime and manga IP of all time will be handled with the same care and quality that Production I.G. brought to Stand Alone Complex.
