The Adventures of Elliot | Prologue Demo Released for Consoles & PC

The Adventures of Elliot demo has been surprise-launched by Square Enix, offering players a multi-platform prologue experience ahead of the official launch on June 18, 2026. Available now across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Steam, and the Microsoft Store, the downloadable prologue allows players to transfer their save data directly to the retail version.

Gameplay Systems & Progression Limits

The prologue demo allows players to experience the opening chapter of the story within the world of Philabieldia. Players can advance the main quest line, seek out hidden weapons, and collect magicite fragments to customize their gear. Unlike traditional vertical slices, the software offers structural freedom of exploration within its designated starting boundaries.

Square Enix confirmed that certain elements differ from the retail product. Specific geographic zones remain restricted by physical limits, and any linked save data bonuses cannot be redeemed within the demo framework itself. The title departs from the traditional turn-based mechanics of Team Asano’s previous HD-2D titles, utilizing real-time action mechanics alongside a strategic fairy companion system.

The Adventures of Elliot Demo | Editor’s Take

Releasing The Adventures of Elliot demo across all major platforms a month away from launch demonstrates careful planning on both Square Enix and Team Asano’s part. This new prologue build should incorporate feedback given by Switch 2 players during the original testing phase, offering an updated look at how well those adjustments were implemented. Having played that original build myself, I had a good experience with it.

For a new Square Enix IP, the gameplay loop felt remarkably similar to what I liked about my favorite The Legend of Zelda games, which were the Capcom-developed entries like the Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages duology and The Minish Cap. If you have been looking to play something similar to that style, this project is something to not only try the demo for, but to also keep firmly on your radar.
