OtherSide Entertainment confirmed Thick as Thieves gameplay is moving away from PvPvE to focus on solo and co-op play.
The project from director Warren Spector was first revealed in December 2024. After a long period of silence, the studio shared that development now prioritizes two-player cooperative and single-player stealth.
The team initially intended to build a player-versus-player-versus-environment (PvPvE) experience. They changed course after finding that solo and partner play felt more rewarding during testing. This shift allows the developer to double down on dynamic stealth systems within the world of Kilcairn.
A new gameplay trailer debuts during the Triple-i Initiative on April 9. The presentation will showcase the updated mechanical focus and provide a fresh look at the game in action.
Thick as Thieves arrives in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
Editor’s Take on Thick As Thieves Gameplay
Moving away from PvPvE is a smart move for a studio led by Warren Spector. His pedigree with Deus Ex and System Shock is built on Immersive Sim mechanics that usually thrive in controlled, single-player environments. Balancing stealth for a competitive multiplayer space is notoriously difficult. By pivoting to co-op, OtherSide can focus on the reactive world-building and emergent gameplay that fans actually want from this team.
