Konami has officially announced the release date for Silent Hill f—the next standalone entry in the long-dormant psychological horror franchise. Developed by NeoBards Entertainment, the game is set to launch on September 25, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store). Pre-orders are now live.

A New Chapter in Fear

Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f stars Shimizu Hinako, a high schooler who finds her rural hometown consumed by a strange fog and disturbing transformations. As she explores the warped environment, she’s forced to confront personal trauma, unravel disturbing puzzles, and fight for survival—all while making choices that shape her ultimate fate.

The game is described as a standalone spinoff, requiring no previous knowledge of the franchise to enjoy, though longtime fans will find scattered nods to prior entries.

A Cultural Shift in the Fog

Silent Hill f marks a major turning point in the series’ history:

It is the first Japanese-developed Silent Hill game since 2004’s Silent Hill 4: The Room, and the first entry in the franchise to actually be set in Japan.

This change in setting isn’t just surface-level. With a story penned by Higurashi and Umineko creator Ryukishi07, the narrative draws deeply from Japanese cultural anxieties—like isolation, beauty, and psychological disintegration—blending folklore with grotesque, floral horror. The result is a fresh yet faithful take on what Silent Hill can be when interpreted through a domestic lens.

Beauty in Terror: What to Expect

Producer Motoi Okamoto outlines four pillars central to the game’s design philosophy:

  • Setting: An authentic, atmospheric depiction of 1960s Japan brought to life with intricate environmental details and full 4K support.
  • Audio & Visual Design: Featuring creature designs by artist kera, known for blending elegance with grotesque horror, alongside a soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage.
  • Psychological Puzzles: Devised by Ryukishi07, the game’s puzzles are heavily influenced by Japanese cultural themes such as scarecrows and are directly tied to Hinako’s mental and emotional state.
  • Combat: More action-oriented and melee-focused than the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. Combat challenges are designed to reflect Hinako’s inner and external struggles.

For PS5 Pro users, an Enhanced Graphics Mode will also be available, prioritizing smooth framerates without sacrificing fidelity.

Standalone, Yet Familiar

While Silent Hill f breaks new ground geographically and narratively, its heart remains rooted in psychological horror. With a fresh protagonist, a cultural shift in setting, and a new narrative voice, it aims to be both a gateway for newcomers and a meaningful evolution for long-time fans.
