Onimusha: Way of the Sword | Final Stages of Development

Capcom has shared new details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword through their weekly development log. Director Satoru Nihei confirmed that the project is currently in the final stages of development, with the team now focusing on polishing the experience.

The Underground Laboratory

The latest update provides a first look at the Underground Laboratory stage reveal, a facility built beneath Kyoto by the antagonist Dokyo to create new Genma. The design philosophy for this stage shifts the series toward a more psychological horror aesthetic like Onimusha: Warlords.

  • Haunted House Aesthetic: The team designed this area to evoke the feel of a traditional Japanese haunted house.
  • Shadow Play: The environment prominently features shoji screens and eerie shadow work to heighten tension.
  • Narrative Core: Players will uncover unsettling mysteries as they explore this location using Miyamoto Musashi’s Oni Gauntlet.

Capcom is currently pointing fans toward the official website for further stage introductions, with a formal release date announcement expected soon as the project nears completion.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is planned to release 2026 on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
