Second hike in six months puts Xbox pricing under scrutiny
Microsoft will increase the price of Xbox Series consoles in the United States on October 3, marking the second hike this year. A global increase was already applied back in May. The company cites “changes in the macroeconomic environment” as the reason for the move.
The new U.S. prices are as follows:
| Product | Old Price | New Price | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series S 512GB | $379.99 | $399.99 | $20 |
| Xbox Series S 1TB | $429.99 | $449.99 | $20 |
| Xbox Series X Digital | $549.99 | $599.99 | $50 |
| Xbox Series X | $599.99 | $649.99 | $50 |
| Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black | $729.99 | $799.99 | $70 |
With these adjustments, Xbox Series consoles in the U.S. have risen by as much as $200 since May.
Editor’s Take
Microsoft entered this generation in a stronger spot than with the Xbox One, but momentum slipped once the Series S price went up and their library lost steam. Now, with a second price hike, they risk pricing out potential buyers and pushing those on the fence toward the Nintendo Switch 2 instead.
