SEGA has announced Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, set to launch on September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. A version for the upcoming Switch 2 console will follow at a later date.
Editions and Pre-Order Bonus
The game will be available in Standard and Deluxe Editions across both physical and digital formats. All editions include a pre-order bonus featuring Sonic Unleashed’s Werehog character, vehicle, and decal. The Deluxe Edition expands the roster with characters from the Netflix series Sonic Prime and includes a Season Pass that adds guest characters, vehicles, and tracks from popular franchises like Minecraft.
For collectors, a Limited Run Games Collector’s Edition will be available, offering exclusive physical extras such as a Sonic and Shadow racing statue, SteelBook case, hardcover art book, soundtrack, and more. However, due to Limited Run Games’ ongoing reputation issues regarding fulfillment delays and quality control, some may wish to approach this edition with caution.
Gameplay Overview
CrossWorlds expands the Sonic Racing series with a massive roster of 23 characters, including guest appearances by Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga (Yakuza/Like a Dragon), and Joker (Persona 5). Players race through 24 main tracks and 15 unique CrossWorlds accessed via new “Travel Rings” that warp racers through different dimensions and environments.
The game features a deep customization system with over 70 gadgets to enhance vehicles and power-ups, and the return of Extreme Gear hoverboards from Sonic Riders adds vertical gameplay excitement.
