The Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You anime will broadcast nationwide on 28 TBS-affiliated stations every Thursday at 11:56 PM starting in July 2026.
The announcement at AnimeJapan 2026 included the debut of the main trailer plus the official key visual. Zutomayo performs the opening theme song. imase performs the ending theme song “Fiction,” which is featured in the first promotional video.

Series Background and Narrative
Originally a viral web comic posted on X (formerly Twitter) in March 2022, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You later received a print serialization in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine. It won first place in the Web Manga category at the Next Manga Awards 2022.
The story centers on Sasaki, a weary salaryman whose daily highlight is the warm smile of supermarket cashier Yamada. One evening, he encounters a playful, teasing woman named Tayama behind the store for a smoke break, unaware that Yamada and Tayama are the same person. This charming age-gap slice-of-life romance explores quiet moments, hidden identities, and unexpected connections.
