? What Is Silent Hill f?
Silent Hill f marks the next mainline installment in the series—and perhaps its most enigmatic yet. Set in 1960s Japan, the game features a scenario penned by acclaimed writer Ry?kishi07 (Higurashi, Umineko), promising a surreal narrative steeped in rot, folklore, and existential dread.
Visually, it evokes a delicate yet grotesque tone, diverging from traditional Western interpretations of Silent Hill while honoring its psychological roots.
A behind-the-scenes video recently shed more light on the creative process:

? Editor’s Take
Silent Hill f remains one of my most anticipated titles this year, alongside Too Kyo Games’ Shuten Order, Media Vision’s Digimon Story: Time Stranger, and Retro Studios’ Metroid Prime 4.
Having experienced Ry?kishi07’s masterful writing in Higurashi When They Cry and admiring kera’s grotesque-yet-delicate character work in the Spirit Hunter series, I already had high hopes for Silent Hill f. So far, it looks like the perfect blend of Silent Hill 1’s atmosphere and Silent Hill 4’s dread—strange, beautiful, and unnerving.
What really makes this entry historic is that it’s the first mainline Silent Hill game led by an Eastern team since 2004’s Silent Hill 4—21 years ago. With NeoBards Entertainment (Taiwan) developing and Al Yang directing, the franchise is returning to a creative vision that feels more in line with its roots: psychological horror shaped by cultural nuance rather than Western reinterpretation.
Between that and Ry?kishi07’s surreal storytelling, Silent Hill f could very well mark a bold new chapter for the series.
Silent Hill f launches on PC, Xbox Series, PS5 this Sept 25.
