Free Update: Hardcore Mode and Technical Fixes

Alongside the paid DLC, all players will receive a free update patch on April 3. The most significant addition is a new Hardcore Mode for players who want to test their ninja precision.

The patch also brings combat system adjustments and visual updates. These include improvements to character outlines, the in-game map, and tutorial display features to help streamline the experience.

Editor’s Take

The inclusion of Goro Majima in a Shinobi game is the kind of fanservice that makes sense for this world. Lizardcube has a history of treating classic IPs with incredible care. Seeing them pull from Golden Axe and Like a Dragon shows they are leaning into the wider SEGA ecosystem.

The SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance SEGA Villains DLC seems like a solid value at the $9.99 price point. Adding five full stages is more than just a boss pack. It is also good to see a free update addressing the technical side of the game. Character outlines and map displays might seem like minor fixes, but in a fast action game, clarity is everything. We are curious to see how Dr. Eggman’s tech focused boss fight translates into the traditionally supernatural world of Joe Musashi.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is available on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam.
