The Creative Vision
The teaser confirms a bold shift in art direction. Moving away from the CGI of recent years, this series leans closer to Shirow’s original manga aesthetic, which is vibrant and expressive.
The project marks the feature-length debut of director Mokochan (the Dandadan co-director). Joining him is screenwriter EnJoe Toh and character designer Shuhei Handa (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off).
Where to Watch
Amazon Prime Video has secured the exclusive worldwide streaming rights. In Japan, the series will air on Kansai TV and Fuji TV on Tuesdays at 11:00 PM.
A new key visual was also shared via the series’ official X account.
Editor’s Take: A New Era for Section 9
After several CGI iterations, seeing Science Saru take the reins is a breath of fresh air. Mokochan’s work on Dandadan proved he can handle “high-octane” and “weird” perfectly. These are two traits this franchise needs.
The July window puts it right in the heat of the Summer 2026 season. If the fluid animation in the teaser is any indication, we might finally be getting the definitive modern version of Motoko Kusanagi.
