Path of Mystery: A Brush With Death is now live on the Nintendo eShop with wishlist support, ahead of its Western release February 26, 2026. The mystery adventure features voice work from Yui Ishikawa, Yui Ogura, and Yuki Yonai.
Players take on the role of first-year college student Doppo Akazawa, who joins a university Mystery Research Club. Their first assignment leads them to Narumizawa to revisit a 30-year-old murder of a celebrated landscape artist. Though the case was officially closed after inconsistencies were noted and the primary suspect died by apparent suicide, the club uncovers new leads. According to Aksys Games, “Doppo possesses something that those in charge thirty years ago didn’t have; the power to travel back in time,” allowing players to examine past events and objects for clues. This knowledge can be used to steer conversations, guide interviews, and uncover contradictions while keeping Doppo’s ability secret.
The game is structured like a television drama, with each chapter presented as an episode. Tension builds through interactions with characters connected to the original crime. The world is brought to life through full voice acting, detailed character designs, and illustrated backgrounds, while retrocognition sequences shift the visual style to reflect the past.
