Capcom Showcases New Trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword

Capcom has released a new trailer and screenshots for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, offering the clearest look yet at the horrors awaiting players when the series returns in 2026 on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The footage reveals a hidden laboratory beneath Kyoto, where Dokyo—a figure shrouded in menace—conducts grotesque experiments to forge new Genma abominations. Among the monstrosities unveiled are:

  • Greater Nue – A chimeric beast that calls down lightning with feral precision.
  • Kogashira – Former humans twisted by parasitic Genma, spreading poisonous Malice.
  • Chijiko – A grotesque amalgamation of human faces, its writhing tentacles clawing for prey.

Combat Mechanics

To cut through these nightmarish creations, players step into the role of legendary swordsman Musashi Miyamoto, wielding both refined and returning abilities:

  • Deflect – Turn enemy strikes, including projectiles, back on them.
  • Parry – Break an opponent’s stance with precise timing, leaving them open.
  • Blazing State – Activate by chaining parries to boost attack power and enhance Oni abilities.
  • Soul Absorption – Draw in enemy souls to restore health, upgrade weapons, and unlock skills.
  • Issen – A deadly, last-second strike that rewards perfect timing with overwhelming damage.

Editor’s Take

The trailer underscores the game’s return to Onimusha’s signature mix of tense swordplay and dark fantasy horror, with a sharper focus on combat depth and enemy design. With its haunting atmosphere, reimagined mechanics, and grotesque new foes, Way of the Sword is shaping up to be a major revival for the series.
