Switch 2: Digital Exclusives Cost Less Than Physical Versions From May 2026

Nintendo Switch 2 game pricing for digital exclusives published by Nintendo will deviate from physical MSRPs beginning in May 2026.

This change starts with pre-orders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The digital version carries a $59.99 MSRP, while the physical edition is priced at $69.99. Nintendo states this shift reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format. The company explicitly noted that the cost of physical games is not going up. Digital versions are simply set lower to reflect their reduced distribution costs. This provides players with more choice in how they buy and play games on the new system.

Retail partners continue to set their own final selling prices for physical and digital copies. This policy applies only to new first-party exclusives and does not affect previously released titles.

Pricing Policy Details

  • Effective: May 2026 (starting with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book pre-orders; releases May 21, 2026)
