Two Masters and Three New Chapters

This expansion continues the story exactly where the base game ended. Because the missions take place after the main plot concludes, you must finish the base campaign before you can jump into these new chapters. Both Ryu Hayabusa and the young prodigy Yakumo are fully playable as they face off against a new threat in a near-future Tokyo.

While the new story chapters are locked behind the endgame, the two new weapons can be used immediately in the main campaign once you install the DLC:

  • Yakumo’s “Solitaire” Scythe: A massive blade designed for wide reaching sweeps and crowd control. It allows for a high speed playstyle that lets you charge directly into large groups of enemies.
  • Ryu’s “Jakotsumon” Serpent Gauntlets: These tools provide rapid strikes and a unique chain-blade extension. You can use them to pull smaller enemies toward you or propel yourself toward larger foes, filling a reach gap Ryu typically has.

Survival on the Abyssal Road

For the veterans who have mastered every combo, the DLC introduces the “Abyssal Road” challenge mode. This is a 100 floor endurance test that features every enemy from the base game along with brand new DLC foes. To keep the challenge high, the developers are introducing two major mechanics to change how you approach combat.

Frenzied Enemies and Special Blood Essence

The Frenzied mechanic turns standard foes into faster, more aggressive variants. These enemies break their standard combat patterns, making them much harder to predict and parry. You will need to rely on your new weapons and precise timing to survive these encounters.

To balance this increased difficulty, you can now collect Special Blood Essence. This functions similarly to the green essence from previous games in the series but with a strategic twist. Absorbing it adds a massive bonus to your total score, but you can also choose to spend it to trigger powerful Ultimate Techniques when you are backed into a corner.

Platforms and Game Pass

Ninja Gaiden 4 remains available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. If you are playing through Game Pass, you can jump into the action right now and finish the main story to be ready for the March 4 expansion.
