Over the past 120 hours, we’ve done a focused round of site improvements aimed at making the reading experience clearer, faster, and more consistent across devices. It was not driven by doing a feature change, but to improve presentation, reduce friction, and better reflect how content here is meant to be explored.
Interface Improvements
Several updates were made to how the site looks and presents information across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Font scaling has been adjusted per device to improve readability without crowding layouts. Navigation has been redesigned on both mobile and desktop to make core sections easier to reach while reducing visual clutter. Taxonomy displays have been cleaned up, with more consistent placement and clearer intent, and taxonomy button colors have been standardized for better visual uniformity.
The comment system has also been visually refreshed, bringing its layout in line with the rest of the site. Platform pages have been reworked so they now function strictly as review hubs, rather than mixed or catch-all listings.
Experience and Performance Improvements
Beyond visual changes, a number of updates were made to how the site behaves.
Image loading has been optimized, contributing to faster page loads and smoother scrolling. Overall site performance has been improved, particularly on content-heavy pages. The comment system was not only redesigned visually, but also reworked under the hood to streamline its forms and interactions.
Our tagging system has been trimmed and clarified to make scope easier to understand at a glance. Review discovery was improved through better sorting and filtering, including clearer organization by publisher, developer, supported platforms, and review-specific labels.
A Note on Categories and Tags
At a high level, categories define what a post fundamentally is, while tags describe the type of update or context surrounding it. Reviews now serve as the backbone for platform, publisher, and developer taxonomy, keeping discovery focused and intentional rather than fragmented.
This structure is designed to reduce noise and make it clearer why a piece of content exists where it does.
Ongoing Article Audits
With these systems now in place, older articles are being progressively reviewed and aligned as part of regular publishing work. This audit process will continue alongside new posts to keep the site consistent without disrupting existing content.
These updates represent a foundation pass rather than a one-off redesign. Smaller refinements will continue as needed, but the overall direction and structure are now standardized.
