Killer7 Update Adds Remastered Videos and Fixes

Yesterday, it was announced that killer7 received an update that added the following:

Remastered Videos

The update features AI-upscaled cutscenes, replacing the original videos with higher-quality versions based on the GameCube release. However, some players have noted that these upscaled cutscenes look less natural than the originals. Fortunately, Searcher has detailed a method to retain the original videos while still benefiting from the other changes in this update.

Additionally, a mod is available to bring the original GameCube full-motion videos (FMVs) to the PC version for those who prefer the classic visuals.

Graphical Upgrades

The update includes several graphical improvements:

  • More reload animations now run at 60 fps.
  • Added MSAA (Multisample Anti-Aliasing) support, configurable in the configuration tool.
  • Introduced a framerate limiter, which can be set up through the configuration tool.
  • Upscaled more fonts and textures.
  • Added support for BC7 texture compression.
  • Enabled DPI awareness to support proper 4K resolution (ensure custom DPI overrides are disabled).

Quality of Life Enhancements

A variety of quality-of-life changes have been made to improve the player experience:

  • Quick character selection is now available for gamepad users.
  • Junction selection is faster when using the mouse.
  • Skills can now be selected in the TV menu via mouse.
  • Kess Bloodysunday’s cutscenes are skippable.
  • Replaced fixed Xbox button references with dynamic button glyphs, supporting customized controls and keyboard/mouse inputs.
  • References to the “Memory Card” have been removed from the save/load menus.
  • The configuration tool now detects and warns about duplicate control bindings.
  • Added support for DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers.

Bug Fixes

Numerous bugs have been addressed to enhance gameplay stability:

  • Corrected character rendering issues at junctions, where characters appeared red.
  • Resolved problems with monitors featuring refresh rates above 60Hz, including slow mouse aiming and overly fast animations.
  • Fixed visual effects, such as the Handsomemen death particle effect.
  • Addressed a rare crash during the “Susie in dryer” scene.
  • Corrected subtitle and memo text errors.
  • Fixed legacy bugs in the Ulmeyda boss fight and battles with Kevin.
  • Resolved graphical issues when quitting during the Curtis boss fight.
  • Hopper7 mode now properly displays Camelia’s weak spot.
  • Fixed random crashes when accessing the in-game menu.
  • Resolved an audio bug occurring when plugging or unplugging headphones.
  • Fixed issues with high polling rate mice.
  • Included various optimizations for overall performance.

This update not only modernizes killer7 but also continues to refine its cult-classic status with new features and fixes. Whether you’re revisiting the game or experiencing it for the first time, these enhancements aim to deliver a smoother and more immersive experience.
