About Steel Ball Run

Set in the late 19th century United States, Steel Ball Run follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who lost the use of his legs in a tragic accident. He joins forces with the enigmatic outlaw Gyro Zeppeli to enter the Steel Ball Run, a grueling horse race across the American continent with a staggering $50 million prize at stake.

Editor’s Take: Is the Hype Real?

With the premiere just over a week away, the energy in the JoJo community is electric. Looking back at our initial worries about “Netflix Jail” or another Stone Ocean CGI situation, the latest trailers have gone a long way in silencing the doubters. david production appears to have treated Steel Ball Run as their prestige project; the line work is sharper, and more importantly, the horses actually look like they belong in the scene.

That said, the Batch Release shadow still looms large. Netflix has been tight-lipped on whether we’re getting a weekly JoJo Thursday or if they’re dropping the first 12 episodes at once. Personally? I’m still planning to savor this one. Steel Ball Run is often cited as the peak of Hirohiko Araki’s storytelling, and after waiting years for this adaptation, rushing through it in a single weekend feels like a disservice to the race.
