Forever Entertainment and MegaPixel Studio have announced that The House of the Dead 2: Remake will launch for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and GOG on August 7, 2025, priced at $24.99 / €24.99. Versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will follow at a later date.

A Modern Revival of a Cult Classic

A remake of the beloved 1998 arcade rail shooter, The House of the Dead 2: Remake brings updated visuals and new features while keeping its on-rails core intact. Players take on the role of AMS agents James Taylor or Gary Stewart as they respond to a sudden outbreak of horrifying creatures in a small city.

Set in February 2000, the plot follows the duo as they face a crisis that mirrors the infamous Curien Mansion incident. Whether playing solo or in co-op, players will fight their way through relentless undead threats while unraveling the truth behind the outbreak.

Features

  • Remastered soundtrack with the original music included as an option.
  • Updated graphics while maintaining gameplay faithful to the original.
  • Multiple endings and branching paths for replay value.
  • Two-player cooperative mode, just like the arcade classic.
  • A mix of game modes, including:
    • Classic Campaign – the main story experience.
    • Boss Mode – time-based battles against the game’s key bosses.
    • Training Mode – a chance to sharpen skills through specialized scenarios.

Closing Thoughts

The slower boss fights in the first remake and the overall underwhelming quality of that reimagining mean The House of the Dead 2 remake can’t be taken lightly. As the most iconic entry in the series—and a personal favorite—there are big shoes to fill. Hopefully, the team has learned from past missteps.

We’ll be reviewing the game around launch and hoping it delivers.
