The GameCube-era tactical RPG can be played via the Nintendo Classics app on Nintendo Switch 2, expanding the growing lineup of legacy titles available on the service.

Originally released in 2005, Path of Radiance takes place on the continent of Tellius, where tensions between the human beorc and the shape-shifting laguz erupt into full-scale war. Players follow Ike, a young mercenary leader, as he and his company become entangled in a conflict that threatens all seven kingdoms.

The game features grid-based tactical combat, permanent unit death, and a skill system that allows players to customize each character’s role on the battlefield. It also was the first time the Fire Emblem series moved to fully 3D battles.

Editor’s Take

Path of Radiance has been one of the hardest mainline Fire Emblem games to play for years. Its rarity and reliance on the secondhand market have made access expensive and limited. With its arrival on Nintendo Classics, a beloved and hard-to-find entry becomes far more accessible, especially for players who missed it during its original GameCube release.
