Another Fate/EXTRA Record delay has happened as a major shift for the long-awaited remake. Originally set for a Spring 2026 launch, the project is now facing an indefinite postponement as the partnership between Notes and Bandai Namco undergoes a massive overhaul.
Fate/EXTRA Record Delay: Publisher Change
Official statements confirm that Bandai Namco is stepping away as the seller. Notes and Bandai Namco have reviewed the project, leading to significant changes in the development structure.
Key points from the update include:
- Seller Revision: The companies have decided to change the distributor for the title.
- Indefinite Delay: In line with the publisher shift and development review, the Spring 2026 release date has been cancelled.
- Continued Development: Work on the game is still active, but a new release date will not be set until a new partner is found.
Editor’s Take
This announcement is a tough one to swallow. Fate/EXTRA Record was first revealed in 2020 and seeing the constant delays and lack of news has been painful to experience as a fan myself. Navigating this prolonged development cycle has been a test of patience for the community, and it is clear the road to release has been equally taxing for the developers themselves. Between the lack of news for EXTRA Record and how long it’s been between Tsukihime and Strange Fake releases, it puts a lot of worry on the Fate franchise and Nasuverse as a whole.
Type-Moon losing Bandai Namco is a shame but hopefully they’re able to find someone that will support their vision and ensure that we get the best possible release for EXTRA. The original game was quite rough but limited to the power of the PSP, and featured a rock paper scissors combat system with a visual novel style pathing. EXTRA Record changes that battle system into something much more polished and interactive while increasing the scope of the world and battle arenas themselves. I look forward to the release, and hopefully it’s not that far out for all of us and Type-Moon’s sake.
