Nintendo has released update version 1.1.0 for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, introducing new gameplay options alongside performance improvements for Nintendo Switch 2.
The update adds Dixie Kong as a playable character across both Switch platforms. Her jump behavior differs from Diddy Kong’s, offering an alternate movement style. When playing solo, players can now choose whether Diddy or Dixie appears from barrels, while two-player sessions allow Player Two to switch between the two characters directly from the world map.
A new Turbo Attack mode has also been introduced. After clearing a course once, Turbo Attack becomes available alongside Time Attack, challenging players to complete stages at increased speed. Successfully finishing within the time limit rewards a turbo medal.
The update expands language support to Brazilian Portuguese, with language selection handled through the system settings menu. Nintendo also notes general image quality improvements and fixes addressing various issues.
On Nintendo Switch 2 specifically, version 1.1.0 adds support for GameShare (Local User), accessible from the two-player options on the start screen or world map. The update further optimizes visual output for the Switch 2 display and high-resolution televisions, while reducing loading times.
Nintendo released an overview trailer showcasing the new additions.
