Relic Entertainment has announced Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition, a full remaster of the acclaimed real-time strategy title, coming to Steam and GOG in 2025.
In a press release, Relic CEO Justin Dowdeswell stated:
“The Definitive Edition celebrates the original Dawn of War and preserves the legacy of this landmark Warhammer 40,000 title for years to come. Warhammer 40,000 is more popular than ever, and we want new players to experience where the classic Dawn of War franchise began, while providing a platform for our long-time fans to relive it in its entirety.”
A Classic Reforged
This new edition preserves the core gameplay and visual identity of the original while modernizing it for current hardware and displays. Built for today’s PC landscape, the remaster includes:
- All campaigns and expansions: Four single-player campaigns and content from all standalone releases
- Nine playable armies
- Over 200 maps
- 4K support and improved fidelity: Upscaled textures (4x the original), image-based lighting, enhanced shadows, and emissive effects
- Modern widescreen UI & HUD adjustments
- Enhanced gameplay camera
- Full mod support: The game is being upgraded to a 64-bit platform and will maintain compatibility with over 20 years of community mods
Relic notes this is “the iconic Dawn of War as players remember it,” with visual upgrades and usability improvements designed to maintain the essence of the original while optimizing the experience for modern systems.
No Date Yet, But 2025 Is the Target
A firm release date hasn’t been shared yet, but players can wishlist the Definitive Edition on Steam and GOG ahead of launch next year.
