Warning! AMD’s New AGESA Update Breaking BIOS

The AMD AGESA update is rolling out on a small set of boards and early users report crashes, boot failures, and BIOS instability.

A new round of AGESA PI 1.2.8.0 BIOS files has started to appear across a small set of boards, and early results are not encouraging. TechPowerUp reports that the update is intended to improve memory support, yet users who installed it are running into serious problems.

One Chiphell user installed the firmware with hopes of better tuning and quicker system response. Instead, the system locked up every time the CMOS screen was opened. Windows refused to start, and the repair tool crashed during each attempt to recover the install.

Manufacturers have not pushed the firmware broadly. TechPowerUp highlights MSI as one of the first to post files tied to AGESA PI 1.2.8.0. An AMI image labelled 7E59v1A65, dated 2025-12-03 with a file size close to 15.9 MB, mentions improved memory support. Community tracking shows that the firmware is only appearing on a small set of boards such as the MPG X870E Edge Ti WiFi, MPG X870E Carbon WiFi and MAG B850M Mortar.

Recent AGESA cycles have shifted direction more than once. TechPowerUp points to rolled back builds such as ASUS moving from 1804 to 1805, and ASRock jumping from 1.2.03 to 1.2.8.0 in early form. Code in AGESA 1.2.7.0 references Strix Point, so the newer release may continue that path with memory updates tied to parts like Krackan Point and possible Strix Point desktop APUs.

AMD Users should hold off on flashing this update until broader testing clears up the issues reported so far.
