Koei Tecmo has rolled out the Fatal Frame II Remake 1.03.03 patch today, delivering essential fixes for progression blockers and camera glitches that have been impacting players since launch.
This update follows the recent 1.03.02 balance adjustments. The new patch shifts focus to stability and smoother playthroughs in the atmospheric horror classic.
The patch is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is expected soon.
Key Progression Fixes
The update addresses several soft-locks reported by the community:
- Chapter Seven: Fixed a bug preventing the Camera Obscura from being re-obtained.
- Chapter Four: Fixed issues with companion Mayu, including cases where she would stop moving entirely or fail to pass through a side door.
- Point Exchange: Removed an exploit that allowed players to obtain items or points for free.
These changes should prevent forced chapter restarts and let you progress without interruption.
Camera and Technical Improvements
Camera controls are central to the experience. This update includes several targeted fixes:
- Motion Blur: The Camera Obscura’s motion blur settings are now fully separate from the general game motion blur, giving you more precise control over those eerie visual effects.
- Input Correction: Swapped inputs between Photo Mode and the Options menu have been fixed. Vertical settings were previously tied to horizontal ones and vice versa.
Additional Fixes
- General stability enhancements and text corrections.
- Corrected display errors for “Outfits During Movies.”
- Fixed the “Special Shots Taken” count for the Purging Special Shot.
- Resolved a calculation error for the “Extensive Protection” unlock.
Final Thoughts
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake feels much smoother with these improvements. Fixing the progression blockers and awkward controls helps keep the tense atmosphere of the village intact. Koei Tecmo continues to show solid post-launch support.
