Editor’s Take
A $100 increase for the base consoles is a heavy blow for anyone who has not yet joined the current generation. The PlayStation 5 Pro reaching nearly $900 is a staggering price point, no matter how powerful it is.
Consoles were meant to offer better affordability and plug-and-play convenience than high-end PCs. These repeated hikes are eroding that edge. Combined with Sony’s recent project struggles, softer sales momentum, and industry-wide layoffs, this PS5 price increase makes it an even tougher sell for new buyers outside the existing ecosystem.
