Switch & Switch 2 21.0 Update Available Now

Nintendo has rolled out the Switch 2 21.0 update, bringing new GameChat and audio options, language support, and performance improvements.

Nintendo has released the Switch 2 21.0 update rolling out a wide range of quality-of-life tweaks and performance upgrades across both Switch and Switch 2 consoles.

Switch 2 Update Version 21.0.0 Highlights

  • Symbols now appear above software icons on the HOME Menu to show whether each title is a physical or digital version.
  • When several downloads are in progress, users can now choose to cancel all at once.
  • Bundle systems with downloadable software now display a “Receive Software” icon when connected online, which links directly to Nintendo eShop.
  • Users can still access the same content manually from the HOME Menu.
  • The “Search for Users You’ve Played With” option under Add Friend now includes players from GameChat rooms.
  • Virtual game cards can now download data even if “Use Online License” is disabled.

GameChat updates:

  • Games no longer enter sleep mode during chat sessions.
  • A new option to disable “Chat Audio Panning” has been added.
  • GameChat now continues when switching between TV, Handheld, or Table modes—even when the network changes from wired to wireless.

Accessibility updates:

  • Text-to-Speech now reads predictive conversion characters aloud on the Japanese keyboard.
  • The speed cap for Text-to-Speech has been raised from 300% to 400%.

Audio settings:

  • Users can now adjust the audio mode for wirelessly connected Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controllers.
  • “Stable” and “Low Latency” modes are available, with the latter reducing delay at the cost of possible interference.

Display settings:

  • “HDR Output” has been renamed to “System Screen’s HDR Output.”
  • The Adjust Screen Size tool has been improved for easier calibration.

Notifications:

  • “Platinum Point Notification” is now called “Nintendo Switch Online Notification.”

System settings:

  • “Stop Charging Around 90%” has been replaced with “Stop Charging Around 80–90%.”
  • Thai and Polish have been added as system language options where supported.
  • General stability improvements enhance the overall experience.

  • Symbols now appear above software icons to show physical or digital status.
  • Virtual game cards can download data even if “Use Online License” is off.
  • Save Data Cloud Backup information has been updated.
  • “Platinum Point Notification Settings” renamed to “Nintendo Switch Online Notification Settings.”
  • System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2 now includes options to disable redownloading software or transferring album data.
  • Volume adjustment from Quick Settings is now possible in VR mode.
  • General stability improvements applied across the system.
