Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Announced

505 Games and ArtPlay have officially announced Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The 2.5D action RPG is set to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

Led by producer Koji Igarashi and creative director Shutaro, the sequel returns to the series’ gothic horror roots while expanding both its gameplay systems and narrative scope.

A New Tale Set in a Cursed Castle

Set in the 16th century, the story centers on the Ethereal Castle, a demonic stronghold that has ravaged the land and crushed every attempt to destroy it. Humanity’s final hope lies with two unlikely heroes: Leonard, a young apprentice of the Black Wolves, and Alexander, a veteran knight and the last survivor of the White Stags.

Together, the duo must infiltrate the castle, survive deadly traps and demonic enemies, and confront the Demon Lord Elias, who is guarded by six elite vampires known as the Sanguinaries.

Dual-Protagonist Gameplay and Exploration

A major new feature is the dual-protagonist system. Players directly control one character while the other assists in combat, with the ability to switch between them at any time. This system enables new combo attacks, puzzle interactions, and tactical options built around each character’s strengths.

Exploration remains a core pillar of the series, with The Scarlet Engagement boasting the largest map in Bloodstained history. The Ethereal Castle is packed with gothic corridors, cursed crypts, and hidden chambers filled with powerful gear, abilities, and lore.

Customize, Craft, and Conquer

Customization plays a significant role, with armor, enchantments, and weapon crafting returning in expanded form. All equipped gear visibly alters Leo and Alex’s appearance while providing gameplay benefits. Players will gather materials, unlock relics, and acquire skills needed to survive the castle’s horrors.

Fully Voiced Storytelling

The game features full voice acting in both English and Japanese, with a new cast of allies and enemies tied directly into the expanding Bloodstained universe.

More to Come

This announcement marks an early look at The Scarlet Engagement. Additional details, including gameplay footage and deeper system breakdowns, are expected in the months ahead.
