Today, Konami and Neobards Entertainment announced that Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Windows. This announcement comes following an exciting Silent Hill Transmission livestream, where new details about the game were revealed.
Set in the 1960s, Silent Hill f marks the first entry in the series to be set in Japan, with Japanese themes playing a central role in the narrative. The game’s concept centers around the phrase “Find the beauty in terror.” As a guest on the livestream, acclaimed scriptwriter Ryukishi07, known for works like Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, provided insights into the game’s unique approach and setting.
Silent Hill f takes place in the rural town of Ebisugaoka, which is based on the actual town of Kanayama, Gero, in the Gifu Prefecture of Japan. In the game, the town is overtaken by a mysterious fog that causes it to transform into a nightmarish version of itself. The main protagonist, Shimizu Hinako, must navigate this eerie world, encountering grotesque monsters designed by the renowned artist kera. kera is known for their work on the Spirit Hunter series.
Story and Music Highlights
Shimizu Hinako’s peaceful life as an ordinary teenager is shattered when her town is consumed by fog and descends into chaos. As she struggles to survive, Hinako must solve intricate puzzles and battle disturbing enemies to uncover the town’s hidden horrors. The game’s narrative builds toward a chilling and profound choice that could forever alter Hinako’s fate.
The atmospheric soundtrack is another mentionable feature of Silent Hill f. Akira Yamaoka, the composer behind the iconic Silent Hill music, created the haunting score for the Fog World, while Kensuke Inage composed music for the game’s Otherworld, referred to as the “Dark Shrine.” Yamaoka and Inage are joined by composers dai and xaki, who have worked with Ryukishi07 on previous projects.
Developer and Artist Messages
kera, who contributed to Silent Hill f’s creature and character designs, shared their deep admiration for the Silent Hill series. Reflecting on Silent Hill 2, kera expressed how the game’s atmosphere—particularly the eerie messages on walls, the unsettling music, and monster designs—left a lasting impact. They emphasized the challenge of creating something fresh while staying true to the series’ unsettling atmosphere. Silent Hill f offers a new direction in the series, combining traditional elements with a distinctive Japanese aesthetic.
“Silent Hill 2 made a big impact on me. The terrifying atmosphere—walls covered in eerie messages, the chilling music, and the disturbing monster designs—stuck with me. It’s difficult to create something new and fresh while preserving that sense of dread, but that’s the goal with Silent Hill f.”
Kensuke Inage, who composed the music for the Otherworld, also shared his excitement about contributing to such a historic franchise. Drawing from traditional Japanese court music, Inage’s compositions blend ambient, haunting tones with the rich, unsettling imagery of shrines. He aims to evoke the protagonist’s inner turmoil and fear through his music.
“For the Otherworld, I focused on Japanese court music to add a traditional flavor to the unsettling sounds. The goal is to match the inner turmoil of the protagonist with the unsettling imagery of the shrines and the constant unease she feels. It’s about creating a soundscape that mirrors her descent into madness.”
