Nightdive Studios has officially renamed its upcoming remaster of the 1999 sci-fi horror action RPG System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition to System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. A release date for the upgraded classic will be revealed during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2025, scheduled for March 20.

The remastered edition will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG.

A Look Back at System Shock 2


First released in 1999, System Shock 2 redefined atmospheric storytelling in gaming, leaving a lasting impact on the immersive sim and horror genres. The game’s narrative depth and innovative mechanics set a new benchmark for first-person experiences, earning widespread acclaim and multiple Game of the Year accolades.

Set in the year 2114, players awaken from cryo-sleep aboard the starship Von Braun, only to find themselves in the midst of a nightmare. With no memory of how they got there, they must navigate a vessel overrun by grotesque hybrids and rogue machines. The malevolent AI SHODAN has seized control, threatening humanity’s existence. To survive, players must explore the ship’s haunting corridors, uncover the fate of the crew, and confront the horrors lurking within.
