Nintendo Switch 2Late Summer 2026

The studio released the following statement regarding the change:

We’re excited to see players discovering James Bond’s reimagined origin story, and we are looking forward to bringing you the best game experience possible across all platforms.

Reimagining the Bond Origin

The game follows a 26-year-old James Bond as he first joins the secret service. This version of the character is described as audacious and resourceful but still learning the trade. The narrative focuses on his early missions and the events that lead to him earning his legendary status.

IO Interactive recently released the third episode of their developer diary series. This episode explores the writing process and the tone of the world. The developers aim for a fresh perspective on the character that feels adventurous and inviting.

007: First Light Switch 2 Delay | Editor’s Take

A slight push for the Switch 2 version is better than a compromised launch. We saw technical hurdles with the studio’s previous Nintendo releases. Taking extra months for optimization is a smart move. The May date for the other consoles is very close. I will be testing the PC version on Nobara Linux to see how it handles the new engine. If the extra time helps the Switch 2 version hit a stable frame rate, the wait will be worth it for handheld players.
